The initial visit in our office allows us to assess your spine and determine if you will benefit from chiropractic care, and how it is that we may help you. The initial visit includes:
Pre-screening : During this time, the doctor will take a few moments and provide a few quick tests to determine if you are a candidate for chiropractic care.
Consultation: This one-on-one conversation allows you to express your health challenges with the doctor. Once we understand your concerns, we are better able to create a care plan tailored to your individual goals.
Exam: This process takes no more than 30 minutes and includes orthopedic, neurological and range of motion testing. This allows to doctor to identify the source of your problem so that it can be adequately addressed.
X-rays: The doctor may recommend that films be taken in areas of concern. X-rays are provided on-site.* The information gathered from your films allows the doctor to see the extent of your spinal subluxations as well as how long the problem has been there. This is crucial information for determining the length of care needed to correct your problem.
*X-rays are not taken on pregnant women. The need for x-rays in all other cases is determined by the doctor at your consultation.
Report of findings: This report is performed within 24-48 hours of your initial consultation. At this time the doctor will review your findings with you and discuss what your problem was found to be, what needs to be done to correct it, how long you’ll need to be under care, and your financial responsibilities. It is for this reason that you MUST bring a spouse or significant other with you to this appointment so that you can have support on the home front as well.
Chiropractic for kids of all ages
How to know when a child needs Chiropractic care
Nowadays the average birth is a truly medical experience. Epidurals, forceps, vacuums, and any type of pulling on the baby as it passes through the birth canal can cause spinal injuries. C-sections, a form of birth affecting nearly 40% of births in 2011, put extreme pressure and tension on a newborn’s spine as they are forcibly removed from the uterus. Even if the child is born at home and without the use of medical interventions, there is still potential for the spine to be affected. Milestones and the Healthy Child
Every parent looks forward to the developmental milestones their children go through: rolling over, crawling, walking, learning to ride a bike, and playing sports are all things we love to experience with our child. Each of these exciting events has the opportunity to cause spinal misalignments that can easily be corrected if identified early. We recommend that healthy children be adjusted at least twice/month so that they can continue to grow, thrive and succeed.
The Sick Child
Sometimes children have unexpected life experiences that cause them distress. C-sections, premature births, poor nutrition, falls, vaccinations, and exposure to illnesses put stress on a child’s developing spine and nervous system. These children will often exhibit:
- Poor sleep patterns
- Behavioral disorders
- Speech issues
- Difficulty breast feeding
- Frequent colds and ear infections
- Bowel problems (diarrhea, constipation, bloating)
- Sensory Integration Disorders
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
The sick child is typically seen more frequently in an effort to help their body heal faster. Once the child shows improvement in their body’s ability to maintain alignment and health, they can be put on the Healthy Child adjustment schedule.
